“Embraced fragilities” – my portrait in Opale Art, issue 05 – Winter 2026

Some titles feel like you before you have even read them. The one Opale Art chose for my portrait is one of them: “Fragilités assumées” – embraced fragilities.

The contemporary art magazine Opale Art devotes a double page to my work in the portfolio of its issue 05 – Winter 2026, alongside 18 artists. It opens with a full-page painting: Bulles de vie (2025, 110 × 110 cm).

From one world to another

The portrait begins where it all began: in science. With a doctorate in mathematical engineering, I spent years working with rigour, analysis and modelling. Opale Art shows how this training, far from opposing artistic creation, has become one of its foundations.

Then came the need to express myself through matter and gesture. I took up painting, then deepened my sculpture practice in La Borne and Sèvres, where stoneware and porcelain became my favoured ground for exploring balance, tension and the relationship to space.

A view “from above”

The magazine puts words to the overhead view that runs through all my work: a step back that makes it possible to observe the individual within a larger whole, and to question the invisible dynamics that shape groups.

Each work thus stands as a fragile point of balance between reason and perception, between construction and intuition.

Six questions, six windows

The portrait continues with six questions. Here is a foretaste.

01 – If you had to present your art to a child
I chose the image of a curious bird flying over the world: “I like to show that we are all part of one great landscape, like little seeds in an immense forest.” A ball, a playground or a birthday party? It’s up to you to imagine.

02 – A decisive moment
No revelation, no thunderbolt, but “a continuous thread”: a patient conviction that still guides me today “like an inner compass”.

03 – Only one work to keep
My first painting of a crowd seen from above, and this question: “Why does this view from the sky obsess you?” Answering it made me understand the thread running through all my work.

04 – The superpower of my art
“Reawakening the sense of connection”: a reminder that the balance between us, and with every form of life, is never a given.

05 – Meeting a famous artist
Francis Bacon. An exhibition in Ireland brought together his paintings, films and a reconstruction of his studio. There I discovered this reversal: “turning the flaw into a strength”.

06 – The question I would have asked myself
“What makes you an artist?” Coming from science, I long doubted my legitimacy, before understanding that this shift was precisely what made me unique.

Many thanks to the whole Opale Art team for such an attentive and accurate view of my work.
